Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2024, Sweden's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 6.2% compared to 2023, reaching 34.2%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 80.7%.

Sweden ranks 23rd out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 5.0% (from 36.0% in 2019).
