In 1972, Sweden's population on 1 january by age group and sex increased by 3.9% compared to 1971, reaching 197,675.

Sweden ranks 7th out of 21 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 15.5% (from 171,217 in 1967).
