In 1999, Sweden's population on 1 january by age group and sex increased by 1.2% compared to 1998, reaching 432,633.

Sweden ranks 7th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 8.8% (from 397,787 in 1994).
