Population change - Demographic balance and crude rates at national level

In 2016, Malta's population change decreased by 3.9% compared to 2015, reaching 7.4.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 10.2.

Malta ranks 24th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 5.1% (from 7.8 in 2011).
