Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2025, Malta's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 1.1% compared to 2024, reaching 46.4%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 81.7%.

Malta ranks 18th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 4.9% (from 48.8% in 2020).
