Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2021, Romania's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 3.6% compared to 2020, reaching 48.6%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 86.7%.

Romania ranks 19th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 28.6% (from 37.8% in 2016).
