Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2022, Romania's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data decreased by 1.0% compared to 2021, reaching 48.1%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 82.4%.

Romania ranks 18th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 36.3% (from 35.3% in 2017).
