Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2020, Romania's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 33.2% compared to 2019, reaching 46.9%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 89.5%.

Romania ranks 19th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 24.4% (from 37.7% in 2015).
