Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2023, Romania's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 2.5% compared to 2022, reaching 49.3%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 80.5%.

Romania ranks 16th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 42.5% (from 34.6% in 2018).
