Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2024, Romania's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 11.2% compared to 2023, reaching 54.8%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 80.7%.

Romania ranks 15th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 55.7% (from 35.2% in 2019).
