Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2025, Romania's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 8.2% compared to 2024, reaching 59.3%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 81.7%.

Romania ranks 14th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 26.4% (from 46.9% in 2020).
