In 2024, Bulgaria's students enrolled in tertiary education by education level, programme orientation, sex and field of education decreased by 11.6% compared to 2023, reaching 195,697.

Bulgaria ranks 16th out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 14.7% (from 229,464 in 2019).
