At-risk-of-poverty rate by poverty threshold, age and sex

In 2023, Malta's at-risk-of-poverty rate by poverty threshold, age and sex decreased by 1.1% compared to 2022, reaching 17.6%.

The figure is above the EU-27 average of 16.9%.

Malta ranks 12th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 2.8% (from 18.1% in 2018).
