Population change - Demographic balance and crude rates at national level

In 2008, Malta's population change increased by 18.7% compared to 2007, reaching 1.9.

The figure is above the EU-27 average of 0.8.

Malta ranks 11th out of 17 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 17.4% (from 2.3 in 2003).
