In 2017, Portugal's police-recorded offences by offence category decreased by 0.9% compared to 2016, reaching 88,541.

Portugal ranks 14th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 13.4% (from 102,271 in 2012).
