In 1998, Finland's fertility indicators decreased by 2.9% compared to 1997, reaching 1.70.

Finland ranks 6th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 6.1% (from 1.81 in 1993).
