In 1998, Poland's fertility indicators decreased by 4.6% compared to 1997, reaching 1.44.

Poland ranks 13th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 23.0% (from 1.87 in 1993).
