In 2017, Portugal's police-recorded offences by offence category decreased by 12.7% compared to 2016, reaching 22,873.

Portugal ranks 12th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 47.8% (from 43,843 in 2012).
