In 2024, Portugal's persons at risk of poverty or social exclusion by age and sex decreased by 2.0% compared to 2023, reaching 19.7%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 21.0%.

Portugal ranks 13th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 6.6% (from 21.1% in 2019).
